Just a few words about mobile payments mentioned in the podcast.
回覆刪除NFC in phone can simulate as a contact-less card by an app, like what was doing by Google Wallet.
But the mobile payment services now active in Hong Kong are not using solely app but all work with telco. Users need to replace a SIM card with particular contact-less card built into it. If you want Octopus phone, you need to replace an Octopus SIM...etc.
At this moment there are 3 mobile payment services provided:
PCCW + Hang Seng PayPass
PCCW + Octopus
3HK + Citibank Visa Paywave (Need to subscribe $18/month)
In addition, most of the paywave transactions are running offline, receipt will directly print out after waving your card without dial-up to bank (if cash dollar is not involved). Some big merchant (like Wellcome) have changed the credit card process to LAN to speed up transaction but still need to wait for around 10 seconds for authentication.
